Marc Garneau, the Canadian astronaut who went on to a career in politics that saw him serve as a federal cabinet minister, has died.
Family spokesperson Marc Roy said Mr. Garneau, 76, died Wednesday afternoon at a hospital in Montreal after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by members of his family.
In a post on social media, Mr. Garneau’s widow, Pam, said he faced his final days with the same strength, clarity and grace that defined his life.
Ms. Garneau said the family was grateful for support, concern and kind words it has received in recent days.
