AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The New Augusta Arena is now the working title for the entertain venue that's on the way, but it’s not the way city leaders thought it would go. “I was not aware of you know taking the name James Brown away what so ever,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Wayne Guilfoyle. Commissioner Alvin Mason is accusing the Coliseum Authority of pulling an end run, dropping the name James Brown Arena after voters approve the bonds for construction. Commissioners are voting to send a letter to the Authority in support of keeping it the James Brown Arena. “The day the news broke about the name potentially changing, I made a statement under no circumstances could I support changing the name from anything other than James Brown Arena, and I meant that,” said Commissioner Jordan Johnson.
