SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Savannah Chatham County Public School System has tentatively adopted a more than $940 million dollar budget for the 2026 fiscal year budget in a 5-4 vote.

Board members who voted against the potential budget said they support the budget’s priorities, but don’t agree with the millage rate that exists in its proposal.

“In the language of the tentative adoption of the fiscal year budget, you have to say that the estimated millage is going to be a certain amount, which I don’t like,” said District 6 representative Dr. David Bringman.

Even though some board members, like Dr. Bringman, hope to see a reduction in the millage rate, the board ultimately did pass the tentative millage rate at 17.481 mills, which is the same rate as last year.
