LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A man is suing the City of Lincoln, Lancaster County and the state of Nebraska for the damage he sustained after allegedly being shot in the head with a projectile during the 2020 George Floyd protests.
The lawsuit, which was filed by Marcel Austin on May 30, stated that he was 18 years old when he participated in a peaceful protest on May 31, 2020, outside of the City/County Building. Documents say he saw law enforcement officers assault protesters while standing in a nearby gas station parking lot.
Court documents say Austin began to walk away from the violence when he was shot in the back of the head by a projectile fired by an officer. According to the lawsuit, the projectile ripped a hole in the back of Austin’s head and caused more than $7,000 in medical bill
