RUIDOSO, New Mexico -- This month marked a year since Ruidoso experienced the wildfires that wreaked havoc across their town. While they suffered such a huge loss, in the year since then, they've seen a significant recovery, according to the Village of Ruidoso Public Information Officer, Kerry Gladden.
"In coordination with the New Mexico tourism department, we launched very aggressive ad campaigns in addition to what we already were doing, and so that has really helped a lot," Gladden said.
According to Gladden, overall, they're down about 4% of where they were last year which matched the national trend of tourism, but for this year's Memorial Day weekend, their midtown traffic was up by 5% compared to last year.
