A low pressure system has the potential to bring significant rainfall to the Wilmington area over the next couple of days, but tropical development is not expected, according to the National Hurricane Center.

By Wednesday afternoon, showers and thunderstorms were moving across the Florida peninsula, parts of Georgia and South Carolina. Some parts of Charleston, SC, had already received up to an inch of rain.

"Periods of heavy rain are possible tonight through late Thursday," according to a report from the National Weather Service in Wilmington. "Heavy rainfall could cause some flash flooding along portions of the southeastern U.S. coast today and on Thursday."
