FORT MADISON (WGEM) - According to Lee County Emergency Management, an empty freight train derailed during Tuesday evening’s storms.

Officials said a BNSF train was toppled in the path of storm damage at 239th Avenue, northwest and across the Mississippi from Nauvoo.

The train was empty, and there were no injuries.

An Amtrak train was held up in Fort Madison due to the derailment.

Officials also said there is substantial storm damage in Lee County, with a clear damage path.
