OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - About three years ago, Taryn Smith came across an interesting article in Vogue magazine. She read about a team of women who rowed from San Francisco to Hawaii.
It was her inspiration to pursue something big.
“I did a little research, and then I signed up to row across the Atlantic by myself, having never rowed before,” said Smith.
Despite her inexperience with rowing, Taryn was very familiar with sailing.
“Both of my grandfathers sailed her in Nebraska: one at Johnson Lake and the other at Branched Oak — and that had a huge impact on me growing up," she said.
A 3,000 mile journey across the Atlantic Ocean, aptly named The World’s Toughest Row .
For 2-3 months, Taryn will be out at sea, rowing from the Canary Islands to Antigua.
