OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Veterinarians caring for horses make up about 4% of the vet workforce . Leaders in the industry say that more options are needed for students in higher education to get them started, at least in Nebraska.

A Bennington woman is proposing a potential new opportunity right here in the Omaha-metro.

Judy Pryor is the owner of Pryor Ranch Champion AQHA Horses & Breeding.

“I started at 3-years-old,” Pryor said. “We had a pony that could barely walk.”

As she grew, the number of horses’ lives she touched did too. She went from a caretaker to a competitor.

“We have raised many, many world and reserve world champions through our bloodlines,” Pryor said.

At the farm, she gives back to the next generation of horse lovers. Bethany Schuhmacher is one of her employees.
