Montgomery area leaders came together Wednesday to discuss crime in the Capital City. The event featured speakers such as Montgomery Police Chief Jim Graboys, Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham, Montgomery County District Attorney Azzie Oliver and ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor. The event helped spotlight collaborative efforts, challenges, and strategies shaping the safety and security of the region. One of the key topics of the discussion was on the new Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit, or MACS. MACS was created on June 24, 2024 as a way to help fight crime in the city. As of Tuesday, the unit has served over 900 arrest warrants, ranging from failure to appear to capital murder, seized 257 firearms and confiscated 164 machine gun conversion devices.
