SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Sioux City’s Crittenton Center got a grant from the Iowa Cancer Consortium to provide sunscreen, and sun safety education, at its Child Development Centers and Transitional Therapeutic Homes.

The non-profit got 10 gallons of sunscreen and will give it to kids in their programs for free.

The Crittenton Center serves around 600 children.

The initiative includes a “sun safety week” to teach kids, and their parents, about the importance of protecting their skin.

“Putting on sunscreen anytime you are going outside even when it’s a little shady outside. Those UV rays still come through quite well. And then, depending on the amount of sweat or time in the pool you may re-apply it every couple hours,” said Finance and Administration Vice President Beau Sudtelgte.
