The offer made so far by the John Wick franchise was solid enough: we got four films’ worth of Keanu Reeves weaving through a society of assassins with deadly flair. Ballerina, billed as “From the World of John Wick”, is a spin-off that spins out – an exercise in flailing tedium that shows all the signs of a total creative power cut.

Reeves is a long way from being in charge, or to blame. He gets what looks suspiciously like an emergency cameo, ceding the spotlight to Ana de Armas as a brand-new, lethally dull trainee assassin called Eve Macarro. Killing Eve is tough. You wish it wasn’t, quite honestly.
