BERLIN, Conn. — Berlin police are investigating after several signs in support of the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut were stolen. 

Town residents said Wednesday that they were upset and that the incident is about more than just stolen signs. They said it’s disrespectful to those taking part in the annual event, those who are donating to the cause and those who are getting an opportunity to play the sports they love.

“It’s a terrible thing, very unnecessary, very petty," said Nick Lefebvre, a Berlin resident.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is one of the largest fundraisers for Special Olympics Connecticut.

The torch run takes place across three days, all over the state, leading up to the summer games, happening June 6-8 in New Haven.
