QUINCY (WGEM) - Time is running out to register for the 2025 Optimist Club Youth Derby Race.

The races are on June 13 and 14 along North 18th Street.

Inspectors have been busy checking over cars and weighing kids to make sure all the cars are safe and the race is fair.

The race is for kids, ages 6 to 18.

More than 100 races have already signed up.

This is the 21st year of the soap box derby.

“Largely, what we do is for safety, to make sure all the cars are weighted the same and making it as fair as possible,” said Ray Wilson, director of the Optimist Club Youth Derby Race.

The deadline for registration is Saturday, June 7.
