Two lawsuits filed in recent weeks allege inmates in custody at Santa Fe County jail have suffered sexual assault at the hands of correctional officers there in recent years.

While one of the incidents was made public in 2023 after a rape charge was filed against a Santa Fe jail guard, the other alleged assault — which a man says occurred that same year and involved three correctional officers — did not receive a criminal charge after an investigation by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office, which deemed the allegation to be unfounded.

The three guards accused by the man are still employed at the jail.
