As the contentious meeting stretched into the early hours of Wednesday morning, the City Council voted 7-1 to terminate the Interfaith Community Shelter’s month-to-month lease to operate a homeless shelter on city-owned property at 2801 Cerrillos Road and approved two contracts totaling $9.4 million with San Francisco-based Urban Alchemy.
The nonprofit, which works in several cities and hires formerly incarcerated people, secured a $1.5 million, no-bid emergency contract for one year of operations of the shelter known as Pete’s Place on Cerrillos Road and a four-year, $7.9 million contract to provide street outreach along the Cerrillos corridor and in downtown Santa Fe.
Urban Alchemy was one of two organizations to submit bids in a competitive process for the outreach deal.
