NEWTON FALLS — After an extensive search and review of 17 candidates both local and out-of-state, village council voted 5-0 at its meeting Wednesday to name Steven Wright as the new village manager.

Wright, of Hayes, Virginia, was among the three finalists for the position.

Council granted Wright a two-year contract at $95,000, effective July 15. The ordinance was passed as an emergency.

Councilwoman Julie Stimpert, at-Large, said Wright was selected for his previous city administration and management experience.

“He has a lot of leadership experience from different roles and jobs he has been in,” Stimpert said.

She said he lives in Virginia, but he has family in Ohio.
