UPDATED 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2025 -- Action News Now has received new details on the sentencing of this case that resulted in a life sentence for a Chico woman who attempted to run over a Chico police officer in September of 2023.

The final sentence, according to the Butte County District Attorney is 25 years to life for assault with a deadly weapon (her car) plus 11 years for fleeing from an officer. Superior Court Judge Kimberly Merrifield presided.

On Wednesday, Judge Merrifield heard arguments from the defense council that requested a dismissal of a previous strike, which would have led to a greatly reduced sentence. District Attorney Mike Ramsey said 40-year-old Lorayna Patricia Gonsalves was previously sentenced to pris before.on twice. Both of the prior felony "strike"
