Police in Lingadzi, Lilongwe, have arrested four suspects in connection with a series of robberies in New Area 43 of the city.
Central Region Police spokesperson Foster Benjamin said the four were apprehended last night after they went to a house armed with machetes and other weapons, threatening a construction worker with the intention of stealing construction materials.
He explained that the suspects, who were part of a larger group, were surrounded by police officers who had been hiding in the area. However, some members of the group managed to escape.
Benjamin added that one of the suspects, James Ngwenya, was shot in the stomach while attempting to grab a police officer’s firearm. He is currently receiving treatment at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
