Residents in Rowlett were asked to stop using city water on Thursday after the sewer main collapse on Wednesday, experienced further collapse.

On Wednesday, residents were asked to avoid flushing their toilets after a 24-inch sewer main collapsed near Liberty Grove Road and Chiesa Road.

The city said there were sewer backups and crews worked around the clock to make emergency repairs. At 2:30 a.m. Thursday, the flow was restored from the sewer main break.

Thursday evening, residents in the outlined area have been asked to stop all non-essential water use. The city said that includes flushing toilets, showering or bathing, and doing laundry or dishes until further notice to help reduce pressure on the system and prevent additional backups.
