LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Some drivers in Jackson County will have to find an alternate route as the Jackson County Department of Transportation (JCDOT) has shut down a bridge due to what they described as ‘excessive and rapid deterioration of the structure’.
The bridge is located on Benn Rd between Gardner Rd and Stepladder Rd in Sandstone Township. The bridge, built in 1939, brings drivers over the Sandstone Creek below.
Engineers with JCDOT are in the process of evaluating cost-effective options to replace the bridge as soon as possible. It’s unclear at this time exactly how long it may take to replace the bridge.
While the bridge is shut down, detours are posted for drivers and JCDOT recommends drivers use Dearing Rd, County Farm Rd, N. Parma Rd, Devereaux Rd, Rogers Rd, Mcdonald Rd a
