The Logan Wildcats are one of three baseball teams in West Virginia to have won two state tournament titles since 2021, along with Cabell Midland and Charleston Catholic.

The Wildcats are going for their third state title in this stretch this week at GoMart Ballpark in Charleston.

Logan earned the No. 2 seed behind Wheeling Central Catholic in this year's Class AA state tournament.

The Wildcats drew third-seed Philip Barbour in the first round on Thursday night.

"We figured that we would be pretty good this year from the beginning," Logan coach Kevin Gertz said. "We have 13 freshmen and started two of them. Everyone has bought in and lifted weights during the offseason. This group hits the ball better than maybe any group that I've ever coached."
