A Chicopee woman allegedly set a fire at a multi-family home early Sunday that escalated to three alarms and displaced about a dozen residents, according to the state fire marshal’s office.

Michelle Hall, 40, was allegedly involved in an “altercation” at 26 Belcher St. prior to the fire, which started in a second-floor bathroom shortly before 3:30 a.m., the office said Tuesday.

By the time firefighters arrived, flames had already engulfed a large portion of the three-story structure, the statement said.

Crews quickly evacuated all residents and two cats. There were no reported injuries, but it took more than two hours to fully extinguish the blaze, leaving the building with extensive fire, smoke, and water damage, according to the statement.
