Despite growing up in one of the Triad’s prominent sports families, Ella Suire wasn’t really into athletics as she reached middle school.

But after breaking her elbow in seventh grade when she fell on a basketball while cheerleading at St. Pius X, the push of her parents during the COVID-19 pandemic propelled Suire from being the last kid picked for games in physical education class to being a standout lacrosse player bound for Division I Presbyterian this fall.

Suire admits that being lazy about her elbow injury rehabilitation in conjunction with being bored in her house triggered the transformation mentally and physically. She felt like her clock was ticking.
