SALADO, Texas — Teachers and school administrators could see new investments in public education as soon as next school year, after Governor Greg Abbott signed a record ten-figure investment in public schools into law on Wednesday. Nearly half of that is dedicated to teacher pay raises alone.

Asked by a CBS Austin reporter what investments the state should make in the future to solidify Texas' number-one ranking, Governor Abbott said, "We've got to earn that title. And we'll earn that every single day in the classroom." He went on to cite HB 2's investments in teacher trainings and basic curricula as leading in that direction, adding, "Texas did not become number one in the economy in business in one year, or in two years. It took more than a decade."
