One of the more difficult elements of an athlete’s career is coming to terms with the end of it. On the most recent episode of the Throwbacks podcast, former quarterback Matt Leinart opened up about his final game and knowing that the end had arrived.

“My last game in Buffalo... I was there for a cup of coffee. I was there for four days. It was preseason game four. And I started. I got called in, like, on a Sunday. I flew and I started on a Thursday. I tried to learn the offense, all that.

“I threw three interceptions in the first half. I was four-for-eleven, ok? Three interceptions. I stood on that sideline like – God bless my mom, she passed away – like someone passed away in my family. I kept my helmet on so the fans, so no one could see my face.”
