BURLINGTON, Mass. —

At least one person was injured Thursday when steel plates fell off a flatbed truck and crashed onto a vehicle as it was traveling on Route 128 in Burlington, Massachusetts.

The incident happened on the northbound side of the highway near Route 3. The panels crushed the vehicle and also also landed in the breakdown lane on the southbound side of the highway.

One person was taken to a local hospital.

Two lanes of Route 128 on the northbound side and one lane on the northbound side of the highway are closed.

The lane closures are in place to allow crews to complete cleanup of debris and are expected to remain in place through the morning commute, MassDOT said.

Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and avoid the area if possible.
