Cut income tax? Be ready for other costs

Bill Thompson’s letter (“Grow revenue, don’t cut spending,” June 3) makes a lot of sense. Many Americans resent paying taxes and think they shouldn’t have to pay as much as they do. So, let’s consider some alternatives.

Reduce state and property taxes so that roads and transportation are paid for solely by license tags and drivers license costs. That way, only those who use the roads pay for them. Of course, that would mean drastically increasing tag and license costs. $500 for a tag renewal, anyone?

Remove emergency services from tax expenditures and have fire services and police visits require payment up front before putting out a house fire or making an arrest.
