BOSTON — A three-judge panel on the First Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments Thursday on Republican State Representative Laurel Libby’s effort to overturn the terms of her censure in the Maine House , which was put in place over a social media post she made using the name and picture of a transgender athlete to argue against trans participation in girls’ sports.
Libby is asking the court to restore her voting and speaking rights in the Maine House of Representatives, which were originally taken away as part of the censure. She comes to the appeals court after a lower court denied a request for an injunction to block the punishments she was given in the House. Her suit is filed against Speaker of the House Ryan Fecteau and Clerk of the House Robert Hunt.
