An allegedly impaired driver in Kingston struck a pedestrian who later died on Wednesday evening, according to police.

The driver's eastbound vehicle allegedly crossed westbound lanes before mounting the sidewalk and striking the pedestrian, according to a release from Kingston Police, who responded to the call around 5:30 p.m.

The seriously injured pedestrian was transported to hospital where they later died, police said, without providing further details about their identity.

The driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and detained. Police did not provide further details.

Kingston police are seeking witnesses and the owner of a Tesla who may have dashcam footage.
