ROCK HILL, S.C. (WBTV) - A South Carolina swimming area is closed after high levels of E. coli were found in the water.
York County said on Wednesday that the swimming area at is closed “until further notice.”
“A routine water test found elevated levels of E. coli in that area of the lake,” a county alert said. “The swimming area will remain closed until further notice as we await additional testing.”
According to the , most E. coli bacteria are harmless, but some can make people sick. The kind that can make people sick could cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, sepsis and other illnesses.
York County did not say what type of E. coli was found but did say additional details will be made public when possible.
