Before we dive into what's going down this weekend, I've got a couple of thoughts about live music in the Wilmington area, and specifically about how Carolina Beach has become a hotspot for live tunes.

There was a time when downtown was the center of live music locally, but that's arguably no longer the case. There's still plenty of live music downtown at venues like Bourgie Nights or Bowstring Burgers and Brewyard (which is technically in the Soda Pop District), as well as Eagle's Dare and in the Marina District, but there was a time when a half-dozen venues operated on or just off Front Street. Most of the big touring shows are now north of downtown at Live Oak Bank Pavi
