Crime is down in Montgomery this year, Mayor Steven Reed says, but work remains to be done.

The Montgomery Chamber of Commerce hosted a roundtable discussion Wednesday, June 4, discussing crime in Capital City.

There is good news on the city's crime rate, said Reed, during a Monday news conference. Violent crime is down 30 percent, and overall crime has dropped by 19 percent, this year, he said.

Reed thanked the Montgomery Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and partners at the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) for the efforts of the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit which has been operating about a year.
