CLOVIS, N.M. (KAMR/KCIT) — Cannon Air Force Base has been a part of the Clovis community since the beginning of World War II.

Built in 1942, the Base employs more than 4,800 military, civilian, and contractor personnel, and injects an estimated $200 million into the area.

For Col. Robert Johnston, returning to Cannon Air Force Base felt like coming back home.

"This is the first base that my family and I have been able to come back to," said Col. Johnston, "I came here in 2016 to be the Operations Officer and then fleet up to be the Commander of the 9th Special Operations Squadron here flying the MC-130J Commando Two Aircraft.
