BATESVILLE, Ark. (KATV) — For one day, Batesville has been named as the capital of Arkansas.

This comes as part of the Governor's "Capital for a Day" program, which highlights different cities across the Natural State and brings state government officials into town to meet with their local counterparts.

Batesville is the fourteenth city to serve as a "Capital for a Day" during Governor Sanders' term in office.

In a proclamation, the Governor highlighted Batesville's rich history.

The city was founded in the 19th century along the White River, where it originally served as a center of steamboat shipping and agriculture. This strategic position lead to the development of light industry and rail transit.
