A new Wawa policy requires drivers to specify a dollar amount before paying for gas.
The change was made "to ensure a smooth and secure transaction for both customers and associates," a Wawa spokeswoman said.
The phrase "fill it, regular" has become ubiquitous in New Jersey, the only state where self-serve gas is illegal.
But a new policy enacted by Wawa means drivers paying with cash in the Garden State can no longer use the three-word shorthand when filling their tank.
The new Wawa guidelines, which went into effect June 2, require payment prior to all gas transactions, the convenience chain confirmed in an email to NorthJersey.com. The change applies to credit, debit and gift card payment methods used at the pump as well as cash.
