PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police believe that a man who died from a gunshot wound Wednesday night suffered the injury due to an accidental self-inflicted shooting.

Terrell McLain, 29, was located by officers at approximately 6:22 p.m. Wednesday night on March Street suffering from a gunshot wound .

McLain was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased, according to a statement from Providence City Hall Press Secretary Anthony Vega.

A firearm was recovered by officers at the scene of the incident and the preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting was a self-inflicted accident.

The shooting is still under investigation.
