CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- A fire broke out in an apartment in Cortlandville around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4.

Homer and Cortlandville fire departments were called to 3700 Homestead Ave, Building 14, for a fire in an apartment. When crews arrived at the scene, they said they received conflicting stories as to how the fire was started.

After more time on the scene, the cause of the fire was said to be accidental due to batteries. Two people were displaced by the fire.

The apartment suffered fire and smoke damage, which caused water damage to the apartment below. No injuries were reported at the time of the fire. It is unclear how many people were involved or impacted.

The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control is still investigating.
