PORTAGE — A minor explosion and fire occurred Wednesday as aging underground fuel tanks were being removed on the city's southwest side, according to the Portage Fire Department.

Fire crews responded to the scene and successfully put out the blaze, the department reported.

"There were no significant injuries reported," firefighters said.
