NEW YORK, N.Y.— Johnnies fans, fear not — it appears The Godfather is staying put in Queens.
In the wake of ex-Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau’s surprising dismissal — despite guiding New York to its first Conference Finals appearance in 25 years — speculation quickly began swirling about who might replace him.
Among the names floated has been St. John’s men’s basketball head coach Rick Pitino, who emerged as a possible candidate given his New York ties and previous stint as Knicks head coach from 1987-89.
But during an appearance at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday to watch the Bombers take on the Guardians, Pitino took a moment to set the record straight: he’s not going anywhere.
