SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - The man who shot two people inside a Bradenton bar last year has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.
Derrell Scott, 54, pleaded no contest Wednesday to two counts of second-degree attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. When he is released, he will be on probation for 10 years.
On July 26, Scott was in the Loaded Barrel Tavern on 12th Street West when he began arguing with another bar patron. Scott left the bar and returned with a gun, firing multiple times inside the bar.
Scott hit the man he had been arguing with in the torso, and also wounded a woman bystander in the leg.
Police found surveillance footage from several city cameras that captured the shooter leaving the tavern and driving away in a maroon SUV.
