WALKER COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Another former Walker County jailer has agreed to plead guilty to a federal charge connected to the in-custody death of inmate Tony Mitchell in January of 2023.
Braxton Kee has agreed to plead guilty to deprivation of rights under color of law, becoming the 14th person who worked for or with the Walker County Jail at the time of Mitchell’s death to be charged or agree to a plea.
Tony Mitchell died on Jan. 26, 2023 , two weeks after Walker County Sheriff’s deputies arrested him , following a mental health welfare check. According to a Walker County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson at the time, Mitchell was in the front yard and fired at deputies when they arrived.
