In the top of the fifth inning of the Women's College World Series Championship, star Texas softball junior Reese Atwood popped up from her catcher's stance and fired a throw to second baseman Leighann Goode. Texas Tech outfielder Logan Halleman, desperately sprinting toward second, was tagged out by at least a couple of feet.
The Longhorns crowd cheered, assuming they had stopped the Red Raiders in their tracks. But Texas Tech challenged.
Upon review, the WCWS umpire decided that Goode's left foot impeded Halleman's path to the base, leading to obstruction. Miyiah Davis followed with a single, bringing her teammate home and giving Texas Tech a 1-0 lead.
