PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- An 18-year-old Pekin girl has been declared brain dead after being shot Tuesday night on Peoria's Riverfront, the Peoria County Coroner said.

Coroner Jamie Harwood, on his Facebook page, said that "despite the tenacious efforts by care providers, sadly, the young lady, 18-year-old Kenadee Wallenfang, of Pekin, was pronounced brain dead on June 4th, at 5:15 pm."

Officers with the Peoria Police Department were called at 3:19 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, to the 100 block of Southwest Water Street to a report that a woman had been shot, said Semone Roth, a police spokeswoman on Tuesday.
