SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is investigating an officer involved shooting in Sweetwater.

On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 12:55 a.m., Monroe County deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Camp Hill Road.

According to the TBI, deputies were responding to a individual having a mental episode.

Upon arrival, a man displayed a weapon and retreated back into the residence.

Authorities tried to negotiate with the man, and eventually deployed tear gas in an attempt to for the suspect out of the residence.

The man opened the door and fired a shot.

A police officer with the Madisonville Police Department returned fire, striking the suspect.

The man was transported to a local hospital via EMS.

The TBI stated no law enforcement
