LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Drive-in theaters are a nostalgic reminder of America in the 1950s, when they were at the height of popularity. Over the years, that popularity waned but surged again during the pandemic.

At one time, there were 4,000 drive-in movie theaters across the country, but now, only about 500 remain. A few are located in Las Vegas, including the valley's oldest one, West Wind Drive-In, which opened in 1966 in North Las Vegas.

Comesha Starnes, the general manager of West Wind Drive-In, started as a cashier at the theater 18 years ago. She said when the drive-in first opened, it had one screen and now it has six and shows first-run movies, including the new Lilo & Stitch and Karate Kid. • West Wind is Las Vegas' oldest drive-in theater.
