DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -- Funding has been approved for a cleanup project at the old Sears location at the former Salem Mall.
Gov. Mike DeWine announced the Montgomery County Land Bank is receiving $1,798,220 to conduct the following at the defunct department store site: • Demolish select parts of the interior of the structure • Remove asbestos-containing materials • Remove hazardous waste
The site of the former mall will be home to the Funk Music Hall of Fame and Exhibition Center. A food hall, small business incubator and workforce development center will also be developed, according to DeWine.
In 2023, the site was approved as a historical site.
