WILLIS, Texas — The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is investigating claims about someone believed to be posing as the owner of a wedding venue and taking money from clients.

Deputies said a man using the name “Lance Miller” presented himself as the operator of the former Charleston Lane venue in Willis, collecting thousands of dollars from couples planning weddings.

Investigators said he accepted payments through wire transfers, cash, and mobile apps, despite having no legal authority to book events at the property.

“This individual was deceiving from the very beginning,” said Lt. Scott Spencer with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. “We have way too many victims that have been out way too much money.”

At least 16 victims have come forward so far, according to Spencer.
