The eastbound lanes of the U.S. 24 frontage road from northbound Eighth Street to the highway's intersection will be closed for road construction starting Monday.
There will be a detour to make a right turn from Eighth Street to U.S. 24, according to a news release from the city of Colorado Springs. The eastern sidewalk on the street and the Midland Trail Bridge over Fountain Creek will also be closed, with a detour available on the west side of the street.
The closures are preparing for a three-phase construction project that's anticipated to last until May 2027.
For the first phase, the Midland Trail Bridge will be removed, which is scheduled for the night of June 12, and a new, wider multi-use path will replace it. A northbound lane will also be added on the east side of Eighth Stree
