WASHINGTON (WV News) — Nearly $30 million has been allocated to West Virginia through the U.S. Department of Interior's Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization Program, according to a release.

Of the program's $130 million available in Fiscal Year 2025, $28.67 million each has designated for West Virginia, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.

Additionally, $11 million each has been allocated for Alabama, Ohio and Virginia, and $3.67 million each has been allocated for the Crow Tribe, Hopi Tribe and Navajo Nation.

The funds are intended to help legacy coal mining sites into engines of economic growth. They will support job creation, infrastructure development and energy opportunities in communities historically tied to America’s coal production.
